Bugs and Troubleshooting Guide for macOS Sonoma
I have seen a lot of folks had already upgrade their Mac to the latest macOS Sonoma. Like usual, you can see dozens of bugs and issues with the early version, even the stable release. Below is a list of issues along with the troubleshooting guide to help you solve the problem.
1. Mac Running Very Slow
The user has a MacBook Pro M2 with 16 GB RAM. Sonoma is performing extremely slow. It is handing for multi-task and slow to show the type. Reboot does not do any good!
Suggestion: This may be due to the time Spotlight could be indexing. Wait for a couple or hours and see if it has any improvement. If not, back up your data and downgrade the Sonoma to Ventura or Monterey.
2. Sonoma Broke Optimized Charging
MacBook Pro always charges to 100%. Before upgrade, it would hold at 80% when on the charger and only charge to full.
Suggestion: No known fix. Waiting to be solved in 14.1.
3. Bluetooth Auto Disconnect and Reconnect
Random Bluetooth disconnection and reconnections with bluetooth devices connected to the Mac. Mainly keyboard, trackpad etc.
Suggestion: Waiting to be fixed in next stable release.
4. Sonoma Not Mounting External Drives
I have a 4 TB HDD connected to my M1 Mac Studio. All drives encrypted. Since Sonoma, none will mount. Even from disk utility they won’t mount. I removed the stored password in Keychain and when I go to mount it just hangs after I enter the password.
Suggestion: Create a new user on your Mac and the drive will be mounted without any problem.
You can also:
1) Reboot Sonoma into recovery mode and select the Disk Utility from the options provided.
2) Mount each disk, providing the the FileVault passphrase.
3) Reboot. The drives should now mount cleanly.
5. Time Machine Broken after Sonoma Upgrade
Error happens after running Time Machine backup on Sonoma:
Some of the files on you Mac cannot be backed up until Cloud Files syncing has completed
Suggestion: Wait till iCloud Drive was loading everything on computer, then timemachine started working. After that optimize Mac Storage turned on again, copied the icloud archive extern and deleted it in user folder.
6. Bullets not Printing in Microsoft Word on Sonoma
Bullets don’t print in MS Word. Page preview shows them, print preview only shows an empty square.
Suggestion: Convert it to PDF and print PDF file. Alternative, use Apple Page or Google Docs to edit the document.
7. Shuffle Wallpaper Not Working
Set Mac to change wallpaper continuously but it does not do any thing.
Suggestion: Log out the Mac and login. You can also download 24 Hour Wallpaper app if you want shuffle the wallpaper on Sonoma:

These are the most popular issues in macOS Sonoma 14.0. I am sure some of them will be fixed in the next version. Please be patient. If you can’t wait as the bug has prominent negative impact, then I suggest downgrading Sonoma to Ventura or Monterey!
