I do a lot of image conversions (from .jpg to .webp)in my daily life. The image conversion tool I am using it XnConvert. The converted files are assigned a new text to the original name, like sample.jpg to sample_renamed.webp. I have to delete the attached text manually to make it seen as a normal file name.

This is boring job and takes time as I almost do this everyday. Is there any free tool for batch renaming? The answer is a Big Yes after hours of researching and testing. The software name is Ant Renamer, a totally free and lightweight utility for batch renaming files on Windows platform.

To batch rename files with Ant Renamer, first download the .exe file from official website and run it on your Windows PC. After that, click Files tab to load files into the program. You can also add a folder to the program with Add folders… option.

Now, navigate to Actions menu, and choose String replacement in left sidebar. Now input the text you want to replace in Search for column and the replace text in second column. If you just want to remove the additional text, leave Replace by field as blank.

Back to Files section and click Go menu to start the batch renaming process. It will be done almost instantly. The renamed files will be saved in the same directory where they are imported.

Some other features available in Ant Renamer:

  • Change file extension
  • Multiple string replacement
  • String insertion
  • Moving string
  • Characters deletion
  • Change cases
  • Regular expression support

Ant Renamer is really a time saver when you need to rename multiple files or folders. It is completely free and no pop-up ads/bloatware/adware.
